Morocco: Moroccan Bar Association Strikes in Protest of Code of Civil Procedures Bill

The Moroccan Bar Association expressed its refusal of the Government Bill 02.23 on the Code of Civil Procedures and announced a three-day strike from July 23 to 25.

In an official statement, the Moroccan Bar Association called on all lawyers to refrain from working on July 23, 24 and 25, but to continue working on litigants’ cases during the three-day strike period to preserve their rights.

The association affirmed its role as “conducive to justice and the deep reform of the judiciary.” In addition, the association reiterated its commitment to holding any discussion that may lead to the improvement of legal texts and to overcoming the current crisis of the legislative system.

The bill was initially approved by the Justice, Legislation, and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives on July 19, 2024. A discussion regarding the bill was scheduled during a morning legislative plenary sitting at the parliament on July 23.
