MillerCoors Will Appeal $56 Million ‘Stone’ Trademark Loss

MillerCoors LLC filed a notice of appeal concerning a $56 million judgment in a trademark infringement and false designation of origin suit over the “Stone” rebrand of its Keystone Light beer.

Stone Brewing Co. LLC alleged that MillerCoors needed a way to halt declining Keystone sales and saw the craft brewing company’s mark as a way to do that. MillerCoors made its Keystone packaging predominantly read “STONE” in large font, to the point where from some angles only “STONE” was visible on containers.
