Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP has strengthened its China team with the addition of Li Chen as Of Counsel in the Firm?s Beijing office.

Ms. Chen will play a lead role in the Firm?s corporate practice in China, with a particular focus on cross-border M&A transactions. She will join the Firm?s Global Corporate Group and will work closely with senior partner Anthony Root and other members of the Firm?s 50-lawyer team in Asia.
Ms. Chen has extensive experience representing large PRC state-owned enterprises and private companies, international private equity funds, and foreign corporations in cross-border M&A transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and foreign direct investment transactions. She has also worked on a number of high profile IPOs. Her recent experience includes Tenghzhong?s attempted acquisition of the Hummer business from GM; China Mobile?s acquisition of Paktel Limited; China Aviation Industry Corporation?s acquisition of European airplane components company FACC; the merger of Nokia and Siemens?s networks businesses in China; Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.?s joint venture with 3Com Corporation; and the IPOs of China Netcom Group Corporation (Hong Kong) Limited and Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China Limited.

?Li will strengthen our capabilities in China and will help us continue to build our China cross-border M&A practice.?Li Chen has an LL.M. from the Dedman School of Law, Southern Methodist University (where she was Sohmen Scholar), an LL.B. from Tsinghua University School of Law and a B.A. from Beijing Normal University. She is admitted to the New York Bar.
Milbank has been active in China for almost two decades and set up a full office in Beijing in 2006. The Firm?s recent China outbound transactions includes advising State Grid on its US$1.8 billion acquisition of seven power transmission projects in China?s biggest investment in Brazil, and advising the country?s largest aviation company AVIC on its US$186 million acquisition of two Teledyne Technologies subsidiaries in China?s first successful acquisition in the U.S. aviation manufacturing sector.
