Mike Haven to take over as global head of legal operations at Meta

Legal Insider (UK) reports

Mike Haven is to take over as global head of legal operations at Meta, we can reveal. Previously associate general counsel and global head of legal operations at Intel, Haven was until January this year the president of the Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC) and is co-author of Gen O: The Rise of Legal Operations.

Haven talked to Legal IT Insider about some of the highlights of 2024 and what we can look forward to next year, particularly around the adoption of GenAI solutions.

Lawyers are becoming interested in data management and process as part of a visible cultural shift and Haven says: “Lawyers are starting to become interested in areas that they never really dipped their toes into before.” To watch that interview see the bottom of the article.

“The most consequential legal operations hire in the history of, well, history.

I am biased. Mike Haven is among my favorite people, in addition to being a peer I deeply respect.

I am biased. I am not wrong.

Last week, another of my favorite people/most-respected peers was talking about the importance of public hangings (surprising no one, the context was outside counsel rate increases). I did not disagree. But the elevation and empowerment of the right decisionmakers is far more effective in the long term. Mike is precisely the right kind of decisionmaker. Strategic. Innovative. Pragmatic. Collaborative. Accountable.

Mike was a law-firm partner who left the practice to become an operations professional–eventually taking the reins as the president of CLOC (Corporate Legal Operations Consortium). Now, he has been publicly hired away from a team and company he genuinely loved to take on a challenging leadership position at a $1.6T enterprise with one of the most significant, diverse, and impactful legal portfolios imaginable.

Mike’s skills, credentials, and character are unparalleled–and, deservedly, so is his profile.

A decade ago, Mike was a hire you made if you wanted someone who actually knew legal ops (rare). Five years ago, Mike was a hire you made if you needed someone to expertly build and run a legal ops function (rarer). Today, Mike is the hire you make if you are not only serious about meaningful and sustainable change but also willing to be public about that commitment (rarest). Kudos to Meta. Kudos to Mike. Truly thrilling.”
