Meanwhile In Japan: Fujikyu Railway Considers Legal Action Over Controversial Dance Video Filmed by Tourists on Train

I totally agree with Fujikyu Railway, the never ending mindless scourge of the tik tok dance.!!!!

Fujikyu Railway, a popular transportation line in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, is considering legal action following the posting of a dance video on social media featuring what appear to be foreign tourists performing onboard one of its trains. The video, which quickly went viral, shows a group of approximately 10 people dancing in the aisle of the train, causing disruption and discomfort for other passengers. The company expressed concerns over the dangerous behavior and is taking steps to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

In a statement released Wednesday, Fujikyu Railway condemned the disruptive act, stating, “We will not tolerate any dangerous or disruptive behavior in our vehicles, or any behavior that interferes with the safe operation of our trains.” The railway operator reported the video to the social media platform where it was posted, requesting its removal, and also filed a police report.

The incident occurred on October 16, when the group boarded the train at Fujikyu-Highland Station, a popular stop for tourists heading to Mount Fuji and Fuji-Q Highland amusement park, before disembarking at Otsuki Station. The video, believed to have been filmed by a dance troupe based in New York, shows the group performing intricate dance moves, including sliding on the floor and interacting with nearby passengers, many of whom are seen visibly uncomfortable, covering their faces, or moving away from the dancers.

Fujikyu Railway apologized for the inconvenience and anxiety caused to other passengers onboard during the performance. “We deeply regret that this behavior has affected the experience of our passengers,” the company said in its statement, stressing the importance of maintaining safety and order on their trains.

The controversy surrounding the video has gained significant attention on social media, with the phrase “nuisance dance video” trending on platform X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. Many users expressed their outrage not only about this particular video but also about similar performances posted by the same group. The troupe has shared additional videos of their performances in public spaces around Tokyo, including the bustling Asakusa and Shibuya districts, further fueling the debate.

This incident is the latest in a series of controversies surrounding the behavior of some foreign tourists in Japan. Earlier this month, a video of a Chilean woman performing pull-ups using a torii shrine gate went viral, prompting widespread criticism. The woman later issued an apology after facing backlash for disrespecting a sacred cultural site.

Fujikyu Railway’s decision to consider legal action is part of a broader effort to prevent future incidents of disruptive behavior on public transportation, which has become an increasing concern for authorities in Japan. The company is urging passengers, including tourists, to respect local customs and regulations, particularly in shared public spaces like trains, where safety and courtesy are paramount.

As tourism continues to rebound in Japan following the global pandemic, incidents involving tourists violating local norms have garnered heightened attention, sparking discussions about the need for stricter enforcement of rules to protect public safety and cultural heritage.
