McGeorge School of Law receives $25 million gift

University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law received the largest gift in the school’s history, $25 million, from Robert and Tracy Eglet.

Robert Eglet, one of the best trial lawyers in the country, and his wife, Tracy, a renowned legal negotiator, gifted the school $5 million to support the school’s advocacy center, and $20 million to act as scholarships for first-generation students and students of color.

“My wife and I both strongly believe that it is important to give back when you can,” Eglet said. “We are excited that we have the ability to help students who would not otherwise be able to afford law school. We both relied upon assistance throughout law school.”

The school’s advocacy program will be renamed in honor of the gift to the Eglet Center for Advocacy and Dispute Resolution. The money will create three endowed faculty chairs as well as a fund to assist in the payment of competition fees and travel costs for McGeorge’s mock trial, moot court, and other teams.

“This extraordinarily generous gift will change the lives of McGeorge students for generations to come,” Pacific President Christopher Callahan said. “Robert and Tracy are amazing role models for all of us as they show the power philanthropy has to change the trajectory of the lives of students who are dedicating themselves to careers in the law.”

McGeorge will also receive an additional $5 million from the Pacific’s Powell Match program, which matches gifts in excess of $50,000.
