I am conducting research into law library outsourcing for my Masters in Information Management and Systems at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. This will involve the writing of a thesis of approximately 40 000 words.
LPO is just starting to gain some traction in Australia and the UK experience of it, and law library outsourcing in particular, is of interest to both the legal and law librarianship professions here. I believe that law library outsourcing is imminent here. My interest in this area has arisen from my background both as a lawyer and as a librarian. In 2009, I researched and co- authored the history of the Australian Law Librarians' Association and my current research builds upon knowledge gained during that project.
I have received university funding to travel to the UK to research law library outsourcing and will be in the UK between 21st June to 4th July and during this time I will be meeting with representatives of LPO Providers, their law firm clients and some law librarians.I would be interested in hearing from any law librarian who has experience of law library outsourcing and who would be prepared to speak to me while I am in the UK either in person or on the telephone. I can be contacted at fiona.s.brown@monash.edu. and I welcome any comments.
