A Massachusetts lawyer found guilty of smuggling more than 60 strips of Suboxone into a Plymouth jail will now find herself on the other side of the bars.
On Friday, a Plymouth County Superior Court jury determined Elana Gordon, 45, of Bridgewater, brought the substance used to treat opiate addiction into Plymouth County House of Corrections.
Massachusetts State Police detectives and Plymouth County Sheriff’s investigators found in a months-long probe in 2018 that Gordon had conspired with family of an inmate to sneak Suboxone past guards, the Plymouth District Attorney’s office said.
Using audio and video surveillance, investigators determined that in May of 2018, Gordon used her attorney-client privilege to walk into the Plymouth County House of Correction. She met with an inmate, who was not her client, and passed on two manila envelopes containing 61 strips of Suboxone, prosecutors said.
The inmate then returned to his cell with the envelopes, where they were seized by investigators, the district attorney said after Gordon’s arrest in 2019.
Gordon was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in June 2012, records show. Those same records now show her license to practice has been suspended.
Authorities believe that Minoska Bello, of Roslindale, who had a relative in the Plymouth County House of Corrections, plotted with Gordon to bring the drugs into the jail. Bello has also been charged in connection with the case.
