Man cops COVID fine for driving 30 kms from Werribee to Melbourne CBD for butter chicken

The  Victorian man gave police a very unique purpose from driving more than 30 kilometres.

The man drove from Werribee to the CBD for a “specific butter chicken”.

He was fined $1652 for breaching the rules.

After hearing of the man’s expensive meal, Tonka Restaurant, off Flinders Lane in the CBD, has launched a search for ‘Mr Butter Chicken’.

Tonka says the man had phoned on Saturday to ask about delivery to Werribee, but staff were unable to make the drive until Wednesday – which is when he took matters into his own hands.

In a twist, the Melbourne man’s identity has reportedly been revealed – by a newspaper almost 10,000km away.

Times of India, the third-largest paper in India, says 48-year-old Noel Atkinson is Mr Butter Chicken himself.

“All restaurants in my area were closed and I was craving butter chicken,” the construction worker told Times of India.

“I grew up eating Indian food since my mother is from Ambala.”

But it’s not all bad news for Atkinson.

It has since been revealed he was actually ordering from Dhesi Daba, another popular Melbourne Indian restaurant.

Dhesi Daba has now offered Atkinson a year’s worth of free curries – delivered.
