Mallesons is keen to bulk up in banking and finance, dispute resolution, M&A, property, construction and environment and taxation, according to a report in the Australian. Robert Milliner, the firm’s Chief Executive Partner, said that ?we are cautiously optimistic about the market in 2011,? but ?while business confidence is better than last year there is still some way to go.?

The firm has confirmed that’s looking to take on approximately 50 lawyers and support staff, to support current workload and in anticipation of a rather rosier future for certain departments. Milliner told RollOnFriday ?we are positioning our practice areas to handle the increased workload across, in particular, energy and resources.”
So good news for Aussie lawyers on the ground, and also for those potentially further afield looking to sunbathe on Bondi beach relocate down-under. With the latest figures from the US demonstrating that the top 250 firms are still dieting pretty heavily, Australia may well emerge as the choice for a new generation of expatriate lawyer. Even more so if the Aussie dollar maintains parity with the US dollar.
