The appointment was approved by the firm’s partners today, and Fuller will formally move into the role from January 1, 2012, taking the reins from Robert Milliner.

Fuller has been with Mallesons for more than two decades, and part of the management team for the past five years.

He joined Mallesons in 1990 and was made partner seven years later. He became managing partner in 2006 and has led a number of client and practice initiatives.

He has also specialised in securitisation and structured finance law and is the chairman of the Australian Securitised Forum.

?I?m very excited by the opportunity to continue to work with everyone in the firm and our clients, to take forward the firm?s strategic direction,? Fuller said.

?The firm is in a terrific position and I plan to lead a team that is restless and relentless about achieving our next goals.

“I am humbled by the confidence placed in me by my partners to lead the firm over the next period.?

Mallesons chairman Tim Bednall said Fuller would bring a wide range of skills to the role and he had an outstanding reputation of service to clients and the firm.

?Between now and January 2012, when Stuart will officially take up the role, Robert and Stuart, along with the management team, will work closely together to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities,? Bednall said, referring to a transition process that begins tomorrow.

Milliner, who has not firmed his long-term plans, said his seven years as chief executive partner had been ?very enjoyable and fulfilling?.

?The firm has a clear strategy for its future growth and I am confident that, under Stuart?s leadership, it will continue the significant momentum that we have,? he said.
