In another shocking incident since Swathi’s murder in Nungambakkam railway station, an advocate was hacked inside his chamber at Madras High Court premises on Tuesday morning, sending shockwaves inside the court campus that is under CISF security cover.

Sources said the lawyer, identified as Manimaran, was attacked by his own son M Rajesh with a sickle inside his chambers over family issues.

Manimaran, who is separated from his family in Old Washermanpet, is living with another woman in Guduvancherry, and this had led to his daughter not getting an alliance for marriage. Rajesh had gone to meet Manimaran to discuss the issue. Sources said an altercation broke out between them over the issue, and Rajesh brought out a sickle he had managed to smuggle past CISF security at the Court entrance, and hacked his father.

Manimaran was immediately rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital with bleeding injuries. Lawyers Express spoke to said Manimaran sustained injuries on his cheek, forehead and the back of his ear.

Enraged fellow lawyers, dozens in number, thrashed Rajesh, leaving him too with injuries, sources told Express. He was rushed to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital. His injuries are not serious, sources said.

“Manimaran was sitting in his chamber with his clerk when Rajesh came in.They apparently raised their voices at one another, following which Rajesh hacked him with a sickle. When I ran and came over after hearing his screams, Rajesh had run out, but a group of lawyers chased and caught him,” said G Chandrasekaran, a lawyer practising at the court.
