She died at the scene in High Holborn, the heart of legal London, after a collision involving a lorry at about 10am on Tuesday.

The London Standard reported that Ali, in her late 30s, was born in Bahrain but grew up in London from the age of one. She graduated from King’s College London in 2003 and from BPP Law School the following year. At Latham & Watkins she specialised in derivatives and Islamic finance.

She was the eighth cyclist killed on the Holborn one-way system since 2008.

Detective sergeant Rebecca Collens, leading the investigation, said: ‘This is an incredibly tragic incident and we are working hard to establish exactly what happened.’

The London Cycling Campaign is holding a protest vigil at the site of the accident at 6pm tomorrow.
