Lionel Messi has won the legal battle to trademark his last name for his sportswear brand. The Europian Court Of Justice (ECJ) dismissed the appeal made by Spanish brand Massi. Barcelona ace now finally granted permission to trademark his last name ‘Messi’ for his sportswear brand. ECJ dismissed appeals from the Spanish cycling company named ‘Massi’ and EUIPO European Union Intellectual Property Office.
Messi applied for the trademark back in 2011. However, his mission to launch a brand after his surname faced a massive setback after Massi filed an appeal. The Spanish brand suggested the similarity in both names and logo between the two brands will create a lot of confusion among consumers.
