To provide cost effective and efficient library services to the Judges of the Supreme Court and the Local

Court of the Northern Territory and the legal profession.

Context Statement: The position holder is responsible for providing library services for the Supreme Court and Local Court of

the Northern Territory library collections at Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine. The position holder has management

responsibility for a small team of librarian staff focused on providing high quality library services to users.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop and maintain library services for the Supreme Court and the Local Court of the Northern Territory library collections

at Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine.

2. Manage a small work unit of library staff, including financial and human resource management activities, within an allocated

budget.

3. Analyse requests from library users for information and assist in furnishing or locating that information.

4. Code, classify, and catalogue library resources using standard library classification systems.

5. Maintain records of circulation and materials, including policies and procedures to support the provision of high quality legal

research and library services to users.

6. Maintain contemporary knowledge of library resources to review and evaluate resource material, such as book reviews and

catalogues, in order to negotiate contracts for print and electronic resources, within an allocated budget.

7. Maintain contemporary knowledge of information management systems, particularly those related to archiving and disposal,

to assist the court registries to manage records pursuant to relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

Selection Criteria:
Essential :
1. A relevant tertiary qualification in Library and Information Management, that confers eligibility for admission to membership

of the Australian Library and Information Association, with experience relevant to managing a Law Library.

2. Legal research and writing skills, including statutory interpretation as well as policy formulation, creative writing,

persuasive communication, report writing and project management.

3. Demonstrated ability to manage financial and human resources, including training and developing staff, with a focus on

the delivery of high quality legal research and library services.

4. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders, including Judges of the Supreme Court and Local

Court and legal practitioners, to meet their needs, and other providers of library services and electronic databases.

5. Good knowledge of the Australian court system.
