New in! Membership organisation requires a Library & Legal Research Assistant to provide front line Library and Information (LIS) support to Members ensuring that a first-class service is delivered. This role is to cover a period of maternity for 9 – 15 months and is located in Northern Ireland.
Responsibilities include:
- Receive and process legal research enquiries ensuring that the enquiries are handled efficiently and accurately from receipt to end billing.
- Receive and process Library Authority Gathering requests ensuring that the requests are handled efficiently and accurately. Correctly identify the appropriate materials and information that need to be searched/consulted.
- Support the activities and duties of the LIS office in order to maintain an up to date legal information service and deliver effective and relevant Member services.
- Actively promote all aspects of the LIS to the membership ensuring that members are kept informed of the range of services available to them and how their use may benefit their practice.
- Keep abreast of current topical legal information and legal/justice developments both in Northern Ireland and nationally in order that an informed response can be delivered to the members.
- Retrieve and re-shelve Library materials and tidy Library shelves in order to ensure a well-organised physical Library environment.
- Obtain materials from external sources as required in accordance with LIS procedures and complying with copyright restrictions in order that the membership has access to a broad range of extra information not held within the Library collection.
- Undertake looseleaf updates accurately and in a timely fashion ensuring that the membership has access to the most up to date information available.
- Repair Library books and organise binding/rebinding of the Library Collection as and when required ensuring the Members have access to a high quality of physical material.
- Provide a Reception service to solicitors/clients and other visitors to the Library ensuring a friendly and helpful and welcome is offered.
To be considered for this role you will need the following skills and experience:
- Minimum of 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at grade C or above. English and Maths GCSE or equivalent
- Thorough working knowledge of technology including, MS Office applications of Word and Excel, online databases, and Internet research
- An understanding of legal process and legal materials.
- A minimum of 1 year’s experience of working with knowledge, information and research in a specialist Law Library unit or as a paralegal in e.g. law firm/ solicitors’ office or chambers
- Be highly motivated and an energetic self starter
- Possess an exacting attention to detail
- Demonstrable analytical skills
- Be able to extract the key information needed to progress legal research enquiries
- Demonstrated ability to deliver responses to enquiries/ service requests in a timely and accurate manner
- Be comfortable working with IT and be quick at learning new IT systems and technologies
- Strong personal management skills; ability to prioritise own time to meet deadlines
- Demonstrate an orderly and disciplined approach to the presentation of information
