Librarian Russell Kennedy Lawyers Melbourne VIC Full-time, Part-time

We are seeking to appoint an experienced legal librarian to manage the firm’s law library on a part time (minimum 4 days) or full time basis. The successful candidate will have exceptional research skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work with lawyers and business service professionals at all levels.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


Technical Competences

  • Directs and monitors the cataloguing of information resources;
  • Liaises with external suppliers and other knowledge management centres to acquire appropriate books, journals etc for reference purposes;
  • Researches and investigates the availability of data for special requests and takes the necessary steps to secure such information;
  • Builds good working relationships with practice teams;
  • Undertakes complex research tasks;
  • Systems management – assists with the development of research and reference products;
  • Designs and delivers library and research training sessions;
  • Orders and processes invoices;
  • In depth understanding of the different information services available to the legal profession;
  • Proficient in the use of the internet and intranet;
  • Good understanding of systems/databases required to undertake role;
  • Maintains an awareness of personal/professional development; and
  • Excellent IT literacy.

Leadership

  • Leads project teams, planning tasks, supervising activities and provides guidance;
  • Takes opportunities to share information and knowledge with peers and team members;
  • Works under minimal supervision (reviews usually focus on impact at the team or projects level); and
  • Plans, organises and leads teams to complete small scale projects.

Skills / Knowledge

  • Experience managing the library function of a Law firm.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Polished proof reading skills.
  • Excellent literacy and communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative ability.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word for Windows, knowledge of PowerPoint and internet web skills.Knowledge of FileSite is desirable.
