About us

The Law Courts Library is one of the largest law libraries in Australia and provides services to all New South Wales courts and tribunals, the Federal Court of Australia (NSW Registry) and selected agencies within the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ). It is the only joint state / federal court library of in Australia and is the major law resource for judicial officers in New South Wales.

The library provides a comprehensive collection of legal resources online and in print, legal research assistance, training sessions, and support for judgment publication to assist the judiciary and court staff in the administration of justice. It is administered by the Library Services unit within the DCJ.

The DCJ is the lead agency in the Stronger Communities Cluster, which brings all government services targeted at achieving safe, just, inclusive and resilient communities together. The department enables services to better work together to support everyone’s right to access justice and other help for families, and strengthen / bolster the promotion of early intervention and inclusion, with benefits for the whole community. Working together for stronger communities means we can continue to deliver our services with a more unified and collaborative approach. This means a greater focus on prevention and early intervention, faster responses, more seamless operations, less duplication of effort and better outcomes.
