Local LexisNexis employees were told Thursday that some company services will be shifted to a facility in the Philippines.

But a company spokesman said LexisNexis is ?committed? to Dayton.

Focusing on legal research and business information, New York City-based LexisNexis, a division of European firm Reed Elsevier, has said it has about 3,000 employees in Miami Twp. Local employees were told Thursday that company is starting to ?build a customer service and support capability? in the LexisNexis office in Manila, Philippines, company spokesman Marc Osborn said in an e-mail to the Dayton Daily News.

?We will continue to maintain a significant expertise and presence in the U.S.,? Osborn added.

Asked what kind of presence the company will have in the Dayton area, Osborn replied via e-mail: ?Overall, LexisNexis remains committed to Dayton, Ohio.

?Specifically with global customer service and support, the team has just started discussions with our employees and more details regarding the plan will be shared with them as they become available,? Osborn said.

?

Functions based at the company?s Miami Twp. offices include call centers, data centers, product development, editorial, finance, accounting, human resources, marketing and other units.

In June 2009, Kurt Sanford, the Miami Twp.-based president of LexisNexis global operations, said the company had no plans to leave the area.

?The best thing I can tell you is I?m building a house here right now,? Sanford said at the time.

Miami Twp. officials have said the company has not informed them of plans regarding local employment.

?They have not reached out to us at all yet,? Greg Hanahan, Miami Twp. government administrator, said Friday morning.
