Lexis Search Cheap Labour Here There & Everywhere

Seen posted on Intern Alert Today – Lexis need some cheap labour to help them create another product that they’ll sell to one customer for about 3 times the price? they’ve paid all their interns over the past decade

This is what they want and say. Why can’t these people write . “We need your cheap labour for a few months to develop our product – history buffs amongst you may well find it rewarding”

and we love the last para..

We are looking for students who write well, have attention to detail, and can accurately and quickly identify major topics. This is a golden opportunity to pursue a passion for history, acquire expertise on a particular subject, gain experience working in a commercial environment, and earn authorship credit for writing a guide.

They don’t even pretend to say that by becoming an intern it may give you a job at LN in the future – because there isn’t a chance in hell that there’ll be any jobs for graduates in the US.. they have all gone to India already

Do you have a keen interest in history? Are you looking for greater insight into a particular historical subject? If so, LexisNexis may have the answer.

LexisNexis seeks individuals to work as interns out of its Bethesda, Maryland, office. The work entails writing guides (similar to archival finding aids) for collections of historical documents on microfilm. The collections are rich in historical content and cover international as well as domestic topics from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Perhaps you wish to learn about FBI surveillance of white extremist organizations, or study Native Americans? use of alcohol and peyote in the early 1900s, or peruse the case files of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency? These are just a sampling of the many topics covered in the UPA Collections from LexisNexis.

The intern will review documents on microfilm or PDF and compile indexes to the major topics and principal correspondents featured in the collection. The intern will be responsible also for writing a detailed scope and content note that highlights interesting and useful aspects of the collection for researchers. The author?s name will appear on the title page of the printed guide.

For each guide, the intern will create a reel index (a reel-by-reel, folder-by-folder index to the major topics and principal correspondents in the collection), a subject index (an alphabetical listing of major topics), a principal correspondents index (if appropriate), and a scope and content note.

LexisNexis can be flexible with work days and hours, depending on the student?s needs and arrangements with the academic institution for credit. The intern will be paid hourly.
