Alok Wadhwa former Lexis Nexis India Managing Director has left the company to join Safari Books Online as? their India Country Manager…

Safari? Books Online (www.safaribooksonline.com), a on-demand digital library for technology, digital media, and business professionals, announced yesterday the appointment of Aalok Wadhwa as? their India Country Manager.

Here’s the press release in full..

Wadhwa?s responsibilities focus on securing a strong presence for Safari Books Online in India, and developing a strategy that enables Safari Books Online to tap into the vast market potential of one of the world’s fastest growing economies with SBO?s on-demand digital library assets.

?Given the thriving Indian IT sector, and its need for high quality state-of-the-art content, the market is ripe for us to enter and grow.?

?I am delighted that Aalok Wadhwa has joined the Safari Books Online team,? said Jeff Patterson, CEO, Safari Books Online. ?As SBO?s first hire in India, Aalok brings a wealth of experience in driving growth in India for information services brands such as LexisNexis and Encyclopedia Britannica. Safari Books Online is looking forward to expanding globally in 2010.?

Safari Books Online has made a commitment in 2010 to expand globally to countries where there is a healthy percentage of IT and other technical professionals that will benefit from access to the largest collection of online, on-demand books and video aimed at technology, digital media and business professionals.

?I am very excited about developing the SBO business in India,? said Aalok Wadhwa, India Country Manager, Safari Books Online. ?Given the thriving Indian IT sector, and its need for high quality state-of-the-art content, the market is ripe for us to enter and grow.?

Wadhwa most recently was managing director for LexisNexis India where he helped to double sales for the company over the past two years. Prior to LexisNexis, he founded and served as chairman of Corner Bookstore Company, and before that he served as managing director for six years for Encyclopedia Britannica in New Delhi, India. With over 20 years of experience, Wadhwa is known for his ability to lead successful ventures in the online and retail publishing industry.

What interests us is why Wadhwa left LN. It might just be the simple fact that he can earn more at Safari.

But we also suspect that he may have suffered from being too successful at LN. While India grows and mature markets stagnated it wouldn’t be too hard to imagine a scenario where he’s upped India revenues to a point where head office started putting too much pressure on him and his staff expecting even higher revenues because he’d already performed too well.

Not beyond the realms of possibility
