Ohio Gov. John Kasich has appointed LexisNexis executive Sean Fitzparick to a nine-year term on Wright State University’s board of trustees.

As managing director of North American research solutions at LexisNexis Legal & Professional, Fitzpatrick, 48, of Mason oversees LexisNexis’ Miami Twp. facility, the company’s largest U.S. operation.

He replaces Larry Klaben, president of Morris Furniture Company, whose term expired June 30. Kasich has yet to appoint a replacement for former board member Nina Joshi, who stepped down from the board in March.

Fitzpatrick said in a statement that WSU and LexisNexis have enjoyed a long partnership including offering graduate degree programs for LexisNexis employees here and across the U.S, and partnerships with WSU’s College of Computer Science and Engineering.

“I’m personally committed to ensuring access to ongoing education for our community as well as providing continued career growth and development options to our LexisNexis employees,” he said. “This is a great way for us to engage more deeply in the community and influence the education of our future leaders.”

Fitzpatrick has worked with LexisNexis since 2005. He holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame.

He joins the board at a pivotal moment. The school faces a massive budget deficit, has seen declining fiscal health, and remains under a yearlong investigation for possibly illegal use of a federal immigration program.

Kasich also appointed a new student trustee: Jordan Large, 20, of Cincinnati to a two-year term. Student trustees represent student concerns on the board but have no voting power.
