It appears that Legal Week may have to rein in some of their marketing practices.
The library manager at a London firm has published a short post to UK LIS LAW suggesting that they curb some of their practices…the tactics remind us of the Wexis approach since the beginning of time..
Although we’d love to know more about Legal Week live !
The librarian writes
“Lots our lawyers have been receiving personally addressed emails from Incisive Media / Legal Week – their sales people wanting to set up meetings to discuss Legal Week Live…
People here have received 3 emails in the space of a week.
…………
I contacted Legal Week and asked them to stop contacting lawyers individually, and to coordinate any approach through my team because (a) we hold the budget and (b) we can organise people who might be in a position to assess and help decide about potential new services. When we received email No 2, I phoned the people “sending” the email who – sort of – apologised and explained the emails were going out from their marketing team… it wouldn’t happen again… etc etc.
We’ve had a spate of further incoming emails today. “Dear X, Did you receive my email about a meeting request….”
Has anyone else had this problem?
As it stands, Legal Week are doing themselves no favours, and are only antagonising their potential market base.
If they think that they’re OK doing this, and addressing emails personally circumvents rules around solicited / unsolicited email, PECR etc… they should think again. Spam is spam.”
