Position Title Legal Technology & Reference Librarian
Job Description
The Legal Technology & Reference Law Librarian reports to the Director of the Mabee Legal Information Center (MLIC). This position is responsible for ensuring the MLIC takes full advantage of existing legal information technologies and for investigating and adapting new research technologies which benefit the students and faculty. A core component of this position includes developing a comprehensive program to train law students on the benefits and risks associated with the latest legal technology developments. The librarian performs a variety of additional functions and is responsible for providing legal reference services; promoting and troubleshooting online products; assisting with teaching legal research; and other library duties as assigned.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
1. REFERENCE SERVICES: Assist faculty, students and attorneys in their legal research.

2. TECHNOLOGY: Participate in the selection, acquisition and maintenance of targeted legal information resources by providing guidance on legal research resources and best practices.

3. ELECTRONIC RESOURCES: Serves as a contact for online subscriptions, main Westlaw and LEXIS point of contact, including managing faculty, staff and student IDs and passwords, and serving as liaison to Westlaw and LEXIS representatives to arrange training.

4. MARKETING/ACCESS: Helps to produce in-house training materials, user guides, and tutorials. Promotes and offers training to students, faculty and staff in the use of electronic products.

5. INTERNET: Maintains MLIC website, Digital Commons, and serves as Springhare administrator.

6. PUBLIC SERVICE – BIBLIOGRAPHIC INSTRUCTION: Participates with other public services law librarians in providing, upon request, assistance with faculty research and bibliographic instruction and tours for University of Tulsa law school classes, academic departments outside the law school at the University, as well as surrounding education institutions.

7. PUBLIC SERVICE – POLICY DEVELOPMENT: Responsible with the Director and Assistant Director for establishing policy and implementing changes to improve the overall service of the law library.

8. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Participates in and contributes to regional and national professional organizations, meetings, and continuing education activities.

9. Special Projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Juris Doctor; Knowledge of techniques of online legal research and familiarity with troubleshooting online products; Broad and flexible computer literacy skills including in depth knowledge of standard office applications, web editing/basic html, spreadsheets and management of data;. Experience in public services in a legal setting; Experience working in a law school environment; Excellent communication and writing skills and a strong service orientation, with a willingness to teach. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with MLIC staff, students, faculty and College of Law staff; The ability to manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis.

Preferred Qualifications
MLS or MLIS from an American Library Association accredited library school with experience in legal reference; previous experience managing online legal resources.
