Legal Technology and Research Librarian Suffolk University – Boston, MA

Suffolk University is seeking qualified applicants to consider for the Legal Technology and Research Librarian at the Law Library. This newly created position is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys reference and instruction but would also relish an opportunity to develop programs and applications to support Suffolk Law’s Institute on Legal Innovation & Technology and the law school’s new Legal Innovation and Technology Certificate program – a first-of-its-kind online certificate program. This librarian will be a member of the reference and instruction team, report directly to the Assistant Director for Public Services, work closely with the Institute on Legal Innovation and Technology, specialize in teaching legal technology, and work alongside nationally renowned leaders in law practice technology. Primary/Principal Responsibilities:

Serve as the library’s liaison to the law school’s Institute on Legal Innovation & Technology, work on projects that provide educational opportunities for students, and create user-friendly technological solutions to legal issues

Provide research assistance, training, and reference support to law school students, alumni, and members of the bar

Teach legal research to law students through the first-year Legal Practice Skills program, deliver presentations to upper-level electives by faculty invitation, and offer stand-alone library workshops

Identify legal technologies that are relevant to law students, staff, and faculty, individually and upon request from faculty and develop and implement training programs on legal technologies

Additional duties as assigned Requirements/Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Library & Information Science or equivalent (JD degree is preferred)

Previous experience providing reference, research & instructional support in an academic library, preferably including legal research

Experience and skills in computer programming preferred

Experience with process improvement, process management, or data science preferred

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Commitment to providing the highest level of customer service and responsiveness

Emotional and cultural intelligence with proven ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and handle difficult situations

Must be creative and proactive

Standard hours of this position are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, M-F, but will include at least one evening per week until 7:00 pm and occasional weeknights and weekends for instruction and special events.
