Job Description
Working in Intellectual Property (IP) – Patents – Asia Department, this Attorney will support the expanding R&D operations in Beijing and will provide IP/Legal services (especially patent services) to the Asia business. The work expectation is to provide IP / Legal counseling and services such as patent application drafting and patent prosecution, basic agreements, support for IP enforcement matters, training for internal personnel on IP / patent matters, compliance.
Main Responsibilities
-????????? This person will focus on Patent and IP matters and will be responsible for a technology area which corresponds to a business unit of the company;
-????????? This person will need to eventually handle all patent issues arising related to those product areas;
Specific Work
-????????? 25-50% of the time spending on instructing our outside agents how to prosecute Asian patent cases;
-????????? 10-15% of the time spending on writing patent applications;
-????????? 25-40% of the time spending on advising internal clients (R&D, business management, etc.) about the IP advantages and liabilities for their products and developing and executing IP Strategies;
-????????? 10-25% of the time spending on doing opinion work (freedom to practice / market opinions, infringement opinions, etc.);
-????????? Remainder of the time spending on dealing with the IP issues arising in Asia.

Language and Work requirements
-????????? Authorized to live and work permanently in China for local legal entity.
-????????? Native level ability in Mandarin
-????????? High level written and spoken English skills are a must-have
Specific Requirements
-????????? A law degree / lawyer qualification (in China or another country) and / or a patent agent qualification (SIPO or another country) is a must;
-????????? Candidates should have at least a bachelor’s degree in the sciences (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology or Mechanical Engineering);
-????????? 2-4 years of working experience in patent law gained from either a law firm or another company;
-????????? Patent prosecution, application drafting, non-infringement/infringement analysis, IP enforcement, licensing, contract work are all advantageous skills;
-????????? Legal and issue-analysis skills, capabilities of thinking strategically and working both independently and with a team
-????????? The position is for a local position in Beijing and will require flexibility/agility and the ability to form good working relationships with local and global colleagues. This person will be expected to become a regional expert and will have regional responsibilities.
