Legal Editor, XpertHR, US Content Team

New Jersey preferred, open to remote positions

 

The Legal Editor requires a sound knowledge of employment law and human resource best practices, and the ability to translate this knowledge into clear, practical guidance for XpertHR subscribers, potential subscribers, and internal audiences. This editor is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, readability, utility and currency of all assigned content and tools, serving as tool lead as assigned. The Legal Editor works with members of the US editorial team, external authors, and the production, marketing, product and sales teams.

 

The Legal Editor has, or will acquire, subject matter expertise in their assigned topic areas, as well as a deep understanding of the needs of customers and competitive product offerings which aim to fulfill those needs. They will use that knowledge to produce and oversee content that differentiates XpertHR in the marketplace.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Tracks employment law developments and issues related to assigned topic areas to guarantee timely updates of existing content and development of new content
  • Writes, edits and updates material on existing and forthcoming legislation, cases and best practices with constant attention to accuracy and readability
  • In conjunction with the editorial team, ensures that the core content on XpertHR is kept fully up to date in accordance with required style, prioritizing updates in line with business requirements and customer need
  • Ensures that new and updated content is published within the required timelines and to the required standard
  • Maintains an editorial calendar and obtains approval from Head of Content/Team Leads on new content development plans and budget in support of the content strategy
  • Ensures that assigned content is integrated cohesively on the site and works with other content for a seamless user experience
  • As assigned, peer-reviews colleagues’ work for accuracy, tone, effectiveness, usefulness, readability, spelling, grammar, consistency, and house style
  • Work with internal stakeholders (other editors, sales, marketing, product and management) and external stakeholders (prospects, customers and media) to effectively convey the value proposition and differentiating factors inherent in the product as a whole as well as in assigned content.
  • Periodically monitors competitors to ensure competitive advantage and makes recommendations for enhancements as appropriate
  • Responds appropriately with subscriber/potential subscriber queries and requests.
  • Manages author relationships, including creation of contracts using established templates and processes, and the setting of clear expectations and deadlines
  • Works in close partnership with business functions (e.g. product, sales, marketing) to implement changes and new offerings to XpertHR’s services
  • Identifies content gaps and prioritizes expansion (depth and breadth) of critical content assets to increase value in proposition in collaboration with Team Leads and Head of Content
  • Prepares and maintains white papers, presents webinars, drafts blog posts, implements social media outreach efforts, and responds to media inquiries to increase product brand and links to XpertHR site, and promote author relationships and XpertHR’s expertise

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • J.D., Senior level HR certification (e.g., SPHR or SHRM-SCP), or equivalent degree or practical experience preferred.
  • Experience working in legal publishing or human resources preferred
  • A good understanding of the needs and priorities of human resource professionals
  • Strong proofreading, editing and writing skills with ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
  • Very close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct legal research
  • Self-motivated with excellent management and organizational skills to track productivity and ensure that content plan milestones are met
  • Ability to constantly collaborate with and support team members, leading small groups when necessary
  • Ability to work with content management systems to upload, edit and manage online content.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office
