Unlike counterparts in the West, China?s judicial system is not well understood by multinationals due to differences such as the lack of independent structure of the judiciary and the role of connections, ?guanxi? in Chinese society. ?However, multinationals and foreign businesses in China can still navigate these issues successfully to carry out lawsuits in China. ?The Legal Committee is pleased to host Dr. Liu Nanping for a discussion on the key skills needed for successful litigation in China on Thursday, April 21st from 11:30-13:00 at the AmCham Shanghai offices. ?Lunch will be provided.
Dr. Nanping will share case studies, as well as identify and discuss the skills and techniques involved in the following three phases of legal proceedings:

About the Speaker
Dr. Liu Nanping is a founding partner of Liu?Wang (PRC law firm ????????). ?He is a graduate of Yale Law School (JSD, LLM) and Wuhan University, China. ?His practice areas cover inbound and outbound investment, litigation and arbitration. ?Dr. Liu Nanping was an Associate Professor at Hong Kong University Faculty of Law from 1995-2002 and has published many articles on Chinese law in English, including Trick or Treat: Legal Reasoning in the Shadow of Corruption in the PRC in 2009.
