Legal eagles can expect pay rises of between 5 per cent and 8 per cent this year with newly qualified lawyers in private practice set to earn at least $110,000, according to a new survey.

The survey by Recruitment consultancy Hays also noted that the sector is still in expansion mode, thanks to foreign firms setting up here and Singapore’s growing status as a legal hub.

Pay seems the best benchmark for that expansion.

Hays found that junior salaried partners are expected to earn between $220,000 and $440,000 while their senior colleagues can expect $275,000 to $550,000 a year. And that excludes bonuses. But the gap between in-house lawyers – they work for a company as opposed to a law firm – and private practice ‘continues to be marked’, it said.
