David Cullen has been acting group general counsel since 30 April, and has now officially stepped into Mr Salter’s vacated role, effective immediately, following stints as group company secretary and general counsel of governance.

Mr Cullen joined AMP as a senior legal counsel at AMP Capital in late 2004, and previously worked at Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst) and Gilbert + Tobin, as well as spending two years with the ASX.

His ascension to the role has come in the wake of the ousting of Mr Salter from AMP following revelations of misconduct and the provision of false and misleading statements to ASIC at the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry.

The royal commission heard that Mr Salter played a key role in providing said false and misleading statements to ASIC, as admitted by AMP group executive Jack Regan.

AMP then further implicated him in a subsequent submissions to the commission, noting that the extent of Mr Salter’s involvement in an independent report compiled by Clayton Utz had been “surprising” to the AMP board.
