Law schools to reopen campuses – with thermographic cameras

The UK Law Gazette reports.Law schools will reopen their campuses in September with thermographic cameras, transparent plastic screens and strict social distancing rules.

The University of Law said it is introducing a series of measures to allow its nine UK sites to reopen this autumn. Students will be temperature checked with thermographic cameras upon arrival; screens will be installed in libraries, receptions and student services; and one-way systems will be enforced where possible.

If government guidance changes, courses will be delivered via online streaming instead and students who cannot travel to campus can take online programmes.

Meanwhile, BPP – which has 20 study centres, including two in the Channel Islands – said it will begin the phased reopening of some campuses by the end of September, providing lockdown is not re-imposed. Law students will be able to attend small group study sessions, use library facilities, and book face-to-face appointments with their personal tutor. However, students who want to remain on online when face-to-face classroom teaching resumes will be able to do so.

The City Law School said it will be announcing its plans within the next three weeks.

Law schools suspended face-to-face teaching in March, affecting thousands of students. The majority of exams have also moved online.
