Law Librarians News Is 200 Issues Old

It’s out the 200th edition of LLN .. and a very quiet past couple of weeks it’s been…

?

?

A very big thank you to LLN subscribers who’ve been with us for 200 issues and the last decade of legal information and publishing – as they say … without you we couldn’t have done it..

Editorial

Almost two months of general radio silence from the big two legal publishers now.. The longest we can remember.

Westlaw have an excuse as we presume the job of bedding down Westlaw Next is taking up a lot of their energies but as for Lexis all we?ve seen in the last two weeks is a rather paltry press release from Martindale Hubbell (see story in legal publishing section) about yet another update to the service that involved some dialogue with clients. ?Somewhat light on detail the press release as you?ll see doesn?t actually add much to the pantheon of legal publishing in 2010

Over at Informa (UK) it looks like they?ve been doing some internal re-structuring and rather naively in this day and age they thought it wouldn?t be worth informing their client base what they were up to?.Wrong .

See our two posts on House of Butter to see what they are doing and where they went wrong.

Internal Re-Structure At Informa Causing Communication Problems With Clients

i law subs to rise by 100% in 2011 ?

Interesting post on the WSJ blog about the rise of Bloomberg Law and their challenge to Westlaw & Lexis ? see the story in our publishing section

Talking about competitors for the big two LLN was dinnering with a colleague from Google this week and it seems we should be expecting more from that secretive organization when it comes to law/legal products, or as we are meant to say these days ..?offerings?. ?

X as we shall call him also related a number of funny/sad vignettes about a recent visit to the Stasi museum in Berlin and concluded by saying that on looking at the literature about the methodologies the Stasi employed, he received, he realized that he could substitute the word ?google? for the word ?stasi? on most occasions. X also indicated that on learning that he was a google employee the guide?s mood soured very quickly! ?

Finally.. Some of you may have noticed that LLN has reached the ripe old age of 200 issues. We?d just like to say thank you to our readership who have stayed with us through various incarnations, a global turndown and major changes in the legal publishing industry. LLN is more than grateful for you past support and hopefully continued support. It really is more than gratifying to know that our blatherings, rantings, reports and coverage of the legal information market still interest you. Thank you again for all your support.

?Best wishes Sean Hocking ??LLN
