Law Librarian

JOB SUMMARY
This position provides:
- a) Answer reference questions, in-person, by phone or by e-mail, especially related to Law.
- b) Assist in the Law Collection Development, Weeding and Digitization work (regular and project specific) for the library
- c) Outreach for the library – conducting tours, training for Legislative interns, law clerks, state agency staff, and others.
- d) Participate in Access to Justice efforts, including planning and training in public libraries around the state, and linking to other access to justice efforts. Represent the state library at workgroup and Law Librarian’s meetings and on the Arizona Commission on Access to Justice.
- e) Working on any Law related LSTA grants e.g. Law4Az
- f) Any other library-related work
You will be responsible for:
- Answer reference questions, in-person, by phone or online, especially related to Law, courteously, promptly and thoroughly. Staff reference desk. Maintains Statistics of questions answered and prepares a monthly report.
- Assist in the Law Collection Development, weeding and digitization work (regular and project specific) for the library.
- Digitization work: Harvesting and digitizing (including working with interns or contractors) Law related materials and making them accessible through Arizona Memory Project or equivalent software.
- Maintains Statistics of items weeded/digitized and prepares a monthly report.
- Outreach for the library – develop and provide training for Legislative interns, law clerks and others. Training Librarians around the State as a part of Law4AZ project.
- Contributing to the Newsletter and to the library’s social media (Blog, Pinterest, and Facebook) and ensuring that the content stays fresh; updating Legislative histories of agencies, and updating Legislators Then and Now Database.
- Participate in Professional Activities related to Law Librarianship in Arizona, such as the AZ Association of Law Librarians; Access to Justice Commission. Work with the Federal Documents Librarian on Law-related Federal Documents. Staying up-to-date professionally by attending trainings, webinars, conferences
- Other duties as assigned as related to the position
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Valid AZ Driver’s License required and a Library Degree (MLS), Juris Doctor, experience working in a library, and advanced computer skills are preferred.
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of Library and information work.
- Knowledge of Law and Government Resources especially pertaining to Arizona.
- Expertise in computer usage, such as word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, email, social media.
- Expertise in using devices like computers, smart board, laptops, tablets, IPads, smart phones and software needed to do the job well.
- Knowledge of software used for the Arizona Memory Project.
- Knowledge of Legislative history research.
