The SLA write. "Recognising the new generation of information professionals with the combined skills of library science and new technologies, the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Europe has awarded four professionals its “SLA Europe Early Career Conference Award (ECCA) 2009"

Their press release goes on to say….

The winners – Sara Batts, Annie Richens, Bethan Ruddock, and Laura Woods – are part of the new generation of information professionals with combined talent and have the ability to embrace and drive changes in the library domain, according to SLA Europe president, Géraldine Clément-Stoneham.

The SLA Europe ECCA, in its third year, is given to library and information science (LIS) professionals with less than five years of experience or those enrolled in a European graduate-level programme in the LIS field. The application process involves steps such as writing an essay, securing a recommendation from their line manager or a current faculty member and providing an updated résumé.

Sara Batts, a senior research librarian at law firm Reed Smith, graduated from City University in 2006 with an MSc Information Science. Annie Richens earned her MA Library and Information Studies from University College London in 2008 and is working in the LIS field since three years. In February this year, Richens also joined the Communities and Local Government Department as assistant librarian.

Bethan Ruddock earned her MA Library and Information Management from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2008. Ruddock is the challenge fund support officer for Copac, a national union catalogue. And Laura Woods, currently a student at City University, will earn her MSc in Library and Information Studies later this year. She is an information assistant at the library of City University and at the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn.

The winners are awarded a one-year membership in SLA and have been extended the sponsored invitation to the annual SLA Centennial Conference in Washington, DC which will be held in June 2009.
