Emory University School of Law, a top tier law school in the thriving city of Atlanta and the home of the Hugh F. MacMillan Law Library, is seeking a self-motivated, outgoing, and creative professional with the demonstrated ability to collaborate and a commitment to providing high level service and support, to join our team full-time as the Law Librarian for Outreach and Programming.
Reporting to the Head of Access Services, the successful candidate will focus exclusively on the development and coordination of all outreach, marketing, and programming efforts for the library, with a focus on user experience, and involve themselves in all aspects of the law school community. The position works within parameters defined by Emory University and MacMillian Law Library. While this is a position that requires creative thinking, it also involves understanding of policy and working collaboratively with other departments to achieve consensus on projects and outcomes. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.
The MacMillan Law Library is a vital component of the Emory Law community, and puts at the forefront our instruction, research assistance, and student programming. The library currently devotes a significant number of resources to outreach for our students and faculty. With the support of the successful candidate, we hope to do even more.
Responsibilities
Serve as an active and collaborative member of the Access Services Department
Promote library space, services, and events via newsletters, displays, posters, and presentations, to faculty, staff and students
Build and grow library programming
Maintain the library’s social media and online presence
Produce marketing materials such as brochures, signs, and digital media
Liaise with law school departments and student groups
Serve on library, law school, and University committees
Engage in professional librarianship activities at local, regional and national levels
Assist with Service Desk operations
Other duties as needed
Qualifications
Required
MLIS (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution. Candidates who will complete their MLIS or equivalent prior to start date will be considered
Demonstrated oral and written communications skills, including a high comfort level interacting with a wide range of patrons
Proven ability to work independently within a framework of assigned responsibilities, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with others
Preferred
Experience using library-relevant technology applications including ALMA and suite of SpringShare products
Understanding of marketing concepts and best practices, demonstrated either by a degree or coursework in a field directly related to marketing and communications, relevant and significant work experience, or a combination of both
Prior experience working in law library setting
Working knowledge of project management skills and concepts
Proficiency with website design and graphic design including HTML and related programs
