POSITION TITLE: Law Librarian

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under direct supervision of the Court Administrator, the purpose of the position is to provide the day-to-day operations of the Law Library. Employees in this position are responsible for the administrative and clerical work. Performs related work as directed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists patrons (bench, bar, and public) basic computer skills, such as researching.

Negotiates contracts for legal resources, both for physical books and electronic resources.

Updates and files subscription services.

Submits transmittals for bills and deposits to appropriate offices.

Creates and adheres to the department budget.

Assists the courts with special projects as directed.

Updates and maintains the electronic card catalog.

Other Duties as assigned.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

Performs related duties as directed.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science required, Master’s Degree is preferred; supplemented by up to two (2) years previous experience and/or training in library science; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to calculate, compute, summate, and/or tabulate data and/or information. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others on how to apply procedures and standards to specific situations.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to start, stop, operate and monitor the functioning of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a variety of reference data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may require ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment required in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by set procedures or sequences.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.

Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 – $45,000.00 per year
