Position Summary
The ideal candidate will have experience working with faculty, students, and /or attorneys in a service-oriented environment, experience in research instruction, have excellent communication skills, and thrive in a team environment. Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision and respond to complex research and reference questions. The librarian will be responsible for all aspects of the library including daily opening and closing, reference, collection development, cataloging, and all other tasks necessary to support the user community.
Essential Job Duties

  • Provides reference and research assistance to library patrons
  • Provides legal research and legal information literacy to the College of Law
  • Engages in onsite and offsite outreach efforts and professional development
  • Participates in new student programs such as orientation sessions
  • Supports College of Law by assisting with communication between support libraries
  • Participates in Law Library collection development by maintaining proficiency in digital resources and emerging technologies that will further the library’s mission of service to all patrons
  • Other duties as assigned

Special Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of legal research and resources, expert skill level with Westlaw and Lexis Nexis, and an expert ability to teach other legal information technologies such as Hein Online and ProQuest.

Prerequisites Required for Position
Minimum Education Requirement

  • J.D degree and M.L.I.S (or equivalent) degree from accredited institutions

Minimum Work Experience

  • This is a mid-level (3-5 years’ experience) position.
  • Proficiency in legal research and information technologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in legal research and information technologies
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups
  • Strong service orientation
