Latest Edition Of Law Librarians News Published

As always here's the Editorial & TOC..A huge couple of weeks for new information, articles and product.

Editorial

It?s been the busiest two weeks for articles, comments and opinions on the legal information market that we can remember in quite some time.

And two published pieces stand out especially for us this issue.

Graham Greenleaf of Austlii has published the following article to The European Journal of Law And Technology ?which outlines the development of the Lii network and what it means to the international legal community.

THE GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT OF FREE ACCESS TO LEGAL INFORMATION

As we all know the Lii network has operated to varying degrees of success around the world over the last dozen or so years.

It?s not always perfect but it has shown the way for others .

All we can hope is that the current deficit crises popping up all over the world don?t affect government funding of the service(s)

18 months back the Australian Lii group had a funding crisis and were saved at the 11th hour by a combination of private and public support.

We suggest that any of the Lii groups that rely solely on public sector support, start talking to the private sector as soon as possible to ensure current and future funding.

And dare we say it. They should speak to the private sector with regard not just to funding but also to learn how to make their content distribution and management sync better with the needs of the private sector. In HOB?s august mind this would allow Lii?s to generate a degree private sector revenue thus making themselves less reliant on funding as they move forward.

In our perfect world we see the Lii?s working together to create an international private sector office that starts to work with and solicit revenue from law firms and in house. ?

And then ?the big if.. talking to an established publisher about joining hands to deliver an even better service than they do. We have a publisher in mind ..can you guess ?

The other article / post ??wa want to mention appeared on LLRX. Last week
Entitled the Knowledge Discovery Resources 2010 - An Internet MiniGuide Annotated Link Compilation and written by author & researcher ?Marcus P. Zillman . Less of an article and more of a collection of links he?s created an extremely detailed compilation ?dedicated to the latest and most competent resources for knowledge discovery available over the Internet.
He writes? The key is to be able to find the important knowledge discovery resources and sites both in the visible and invisible World Wide Web. The following selected knowledge discovery resources and sites offer excellent knowledge and information discovery sources to help you accomplish your research goals.
There are literally another 30 odd articles we?d like to mention in this editorial but we?ve run out of space. So please do take a close look at our TOC otherwise you may miss something..
As always ?Best wishes Sean Hocking ??LLN

It gave me an absurd, almost surreal, amount of pleasure to read The Times leader this morning over a strong black coffee and learn that the current vice-president of the Lib-Dem ?federal executive ?is Brian Orrell, who used to play a cyberman in Dr Who.
