Knowledge Management Specialist Librarian /Information Manager – North West, United Kingdom

Rare standalone legal knowledge / information management position within a growing independent law firm based in the North West of England.

This role can be part time and our client offers flexible working.  This role can be based in Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds.

This role is an exciting opportunity to join a growing firm and own KM resources. This role reports into the COO and is a standalone KM position collaborating with colleagues in L&D.

  • Taking a lead role to prepare and manage the firms Knowledge Management / Legal Information resources.
  • Managing the starters, leavers and trainee processes in relation to Knowledge Management resources. Including reviewing and improving existing processes.
  • Taking responsibility for the management of KM suppliers, as agreed with the COO, driving value whilst developing positive partnerships by regularly reviewing services, seeking feedback and assessing internal stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Actively monitoring and raising colleague awareness of new developments from existing KM resources or suppliers, working with L&D colleagues to proactively promote these enhancements, as well as brand new resources, via the Knowledge Hubs and during regular contact with lawyers.
  • Undertaking the procurement of all relevant KM resources following best practice guidance to ensure we deliver best value for the business. This will include:
  1. Reviewing and analysing resource usage for renewals
  2. Benchmarking and reviewing any alternative resources, including setting up relevant product demonstrations
  3. Obtaining costs, negotiating with suppliers where necessary and managing renewals and new purchases within budget
  4. Conducting high level review of contract terms, highlighting any areas of concern on full contract reviews where necessary, and acting as the liaison point with suppliers to negotiate changes to terms as needed.
  5. Drafting and submitting formal business cases for new resources where required.
  6. Working with the Learning and Development team to undertake regular analysis of usage data, feedback and other relevant management information, to help identify key trends and related actions to help improve KM services and to provide insightful service reporting to share with several groups across the business (including the KM leadership team, Operations and Client Services Leadership).
  • Undertake KM administration providing guidance and advice as required (cataloguing, book orders, journals, budgeting, supplier management, etc.), and reviewing and updating related processes.

In order to be suitable you will have relevant experience in a legal or professional services environment within knowledge & information services.
