Not often you get a scoop from us .. but for once you have.
We’ve just penned an article for SLAW on legal publishing companies working in China (due to be published 23 November)? and in our research we asked a number of companies what they were doing or intending to do.
This response from Justis came back a little late for us to include in the article but HOB thinks will be of interest to those of you looking for sources on China law other than the standard LN / Westlaw option.
Here’s what the Justis pr dept sent us yesterday in terms of a staement of intent
Following your query regarding China, I can confirm that we are in discussion with a number of organisations in China and Hong Kong for hosting their data sets on Justis and indexing them on JustCite.? It is too early to disclose the details including timescales, but we hope to offer some data from that region at some point in 2011.
We had an arrangement with a publisher in Hong Kong for re-selling their products internationally, but the model was not successful mainly because selling products on different platforms is always hard, and the publisher did not agree to our request for adding their databases to the Justis platform.? We did however discover that the level of interest in data from Hong Kong and China in the markets that we are active in is high, which encouraged us to look into other data arrangements.
