A Georgia jury quickly convicted fugitive lawyer Richard Merritt for murdering his mother, 77-year-old Shirley Merritt, on the day he was set to report for prison for financial crimes in 2019. Prosecutors claimed Richard beat and stabbed Shirley to death with a kitchen knife and 35-pound dumbbell.
