John Smith & Son The Owner Of Hammicks Legal Sees Sales Fall 6.2%

JOHN Smith & Son, the academic and professional bookseller, has seen sales fall 6.2 per cent to £38 million with pre-tax profit of £41,000, down from £214,222 writes the Herald Scotland

They write ” In its legal business, where Hammicks supplies the Ministry of Justice, revenue was flat, but up 12.3 per cent on a like-for-like basis following the closure of its retail operations in 2015.”

Essentially the market is very flat and the short term benefit of closing the retail storefronts doesn’t look like its going to give them too much grace.

It’ll be a little worrying to see them go as that means except for India there might be only one legal bookstore on the planet, Wildy’s.
