Editorial
Dear Readers,
Welcome to issue 183 ?of Law Librarians News / excited utterances
? ?????Snap I Found It
? ?????Project Utah
? ?????Project Cobalt
The above might not mean much to you now but once the sales teams are out in force you?ll certainly be aware.
Bloomberg announced last week that they intend the? change the face of legal research in the 21st century? and ?Snap I Found It? (we presume this phrase has already been TM?d) is what we?ve all been waiting for. We really can?t tell you much more about ?Snap I Found It? except that it is ?Fabulous?, ?. Because they?ve provided a soft launch but not much else in terms of information.
Meanwhile TR West are halfway to Roswell with projects Utah & Cobalt.
We can?t really go into the details of these projects as our only hint of them comes from a report by Scotia Capital (see story in our news section). There are lots of words like leverage, architecture, accounts etc. As far as we can work out it?s all about integrating the legal, financial and news products together in one seamless offering. Good idea.. but probably a much better idea in 2005 than it in 2009.
We imagine that ?TR West probably only saw Lexis as the competitor when it set these projects into motion. Now that Bloomberg have come to the party and Wolters Kluwer are picking up their game in the US as well as international markets we imagine the TR West sales team are going to have a very hard sell job ? especially if the new integration means higher prices to customers to pay for the investment.
And talking of Lexis one of our most reliable sources on the company tells us that ?in the UK LN have hired two competing consultancy teams, one from the US and one from the UK to ?
develop competing approaches to outsourcing and offshoring. ??Does this mean that In effect, it?s a competition between these two consultancies to identify the “most effective” scheme ?for moving the business out of the UK. ?LLN presumes we shall see early to mod next year.
In other news Joy ?references an article in KIM Legal Magazine ?entitled entitled Retrieving Legal Knowledge.. here?s the introductory extract
Given the current legal services environment, where costs are scrutinised and competition is strong, law firms are increasingly relying on knowledge management to streamline processes as well as to help to attract and retain clients. Professor Georg Disterer and Thomas Fleischer explore intranet and search engine user behaviour ? and how both processes can be optimised.
Thanks as always ?for reading and we look forward to seeing you again in the next issue of LLN/eu
Best wishes Sean & Joy
