This week we?re going to direct you to a story we posted on House of Butter about a public law library consortium in Australia and their trials and tribulations with Lexis Nexis Australia over turning some looseleaf products they subscribe to into electronic subscriptions for their users

The story is a simple one.
Source contacts us and says that this particular library consortium has been persuaded one way or another to essentially fund a beta that turns existing looseleaf into electronic
In ?2010 it amazes LLN that LN (Aus) haven?t managed to produce all Australian looseleaf titles digitally. I would have naively thought that printed looseleaf product remaining would only be about 15%-20% of 2005 levels.
What really unnerves us though is the fact that within 24 hours of posting our piece we were contacted by a representative of the consortium asking us to publish an addendum that in essence is designed to placate Lexis Nexis (Australia)
That a client feels this worried by the reaction of LN really says tomes to us.
We could get angry .. but what?s the point. We suggest that lawyers and libraries do with LN looseleaf what Queensland lawyer Alex Stewart, did this past week to the Bible & Koran? smoke it. Seems the best option.
Maybe if LLN starts a smoke your looseleaf campaign it?ll force LN to turn everything digital to retain subscribers.
We know it doesn?t really work like this but we do love the idea of solicitors and barristers outside every court in Australia furiously smoking every looseleaf page in existence
