EDITORIAL

Dear Readers,
This week?s news and it?s all back to the big publishers.
Q.3 figures are out and they aren?t appalling but the revenues aren?t coming in as hoped.. the new Reed boss has resigned after only 8 months. We daren?t think of the Machiavellian game playing over the last couple of months as his power ebbed away.

And.. West receive a drubbing from individuals who decided to contribute to the USALaw Librarian?s Blog survey on what client currently think of their suppliers? It?s pricing stoopid say all respondents when it comes to West?s performance this past year.

LLB reports? Well, it should come as no surprise to anyone in the law library community that almost 80% of the survey takers rated West’s print continuation pricing relative to the value of West titles in their library collections as Very Poor or Poor.

Also see our following story about the twit (not twitterer, we hasten to add) who published a post on the Martindale Hubbell blog today? surmising that all law librarians and KM?s must now love Lexis so much simply because they are unhappy with the competition. May we remind MH that they are raising MH directory entry prices by an unspeakable % in January so we?d suggest they aren?t exactly the right people to lecture West or the rest of us on pricing issues

In excited utterances Joy references a presentation from the Society of Computer & Law blog? entitled Thrift KM: Getting the Most from What You’ve Got.. We?d imagine a
very popular topic at the moment

The following paragraph amused us ? Lexis say ?argue with us about price but don?t actually give up any of your LN subscription? . Some advance business planning by them, as they well know , that once dropped it?ll be unlikely that anyone will be re-subscribing to a
paid for dropped? digital content service any time in the near future?

Lexis emphasised that price negotiations looking at the full Lexis package are likely to be more effective than limiting attention to information services, and introduced their new Lexisweb.com tool which can enable lawyers searching on Google to see Lexis content higher up the results
