Here It Is.. Mike Walsh’s (Lexis Nexis) Email…. Vezmar Falls On Own Sword ?

A read of this email reminds me very much of the machinations of the Roman Senate at the end of the empire. I’m sure Walsh didn’t intend it to read thus …..but add a bit of hemlock and choose your own playwright !

My favourite phrase has to be  “Judy has been a proponent of New Lexis from the beginning…..”

Dear Colleagues,

I’m writing to you today to announce changes to the organization that are designed to take effect on January 1, 2014. These changes will help us best serve our customers and accelerate growth by creating a flatter organization, and by leveraging shared services—including Technology and Operations—to support the success of our business units.
Judy Vezmar and I have been working closely together to design this set of changes.  She has been working to develop the next set of international leaders and under the new structure, these individuals will move onto the LexisNexis Legal & Professional Global Management Committee and report directly to me.

Joining my global leadership team:

Philippe Carillon will become head of EMEA (Continental Europe, Middle East and Africa). In addition to leading France, he will assume responsibility for Poland, Austria, the Middle East, and Africa. Tomasz Laskowski, Peter Davies, Hussain Hadi and Billy Last will report to Philippe.

TJ Viljoen will become the head of Asia Pacific. In addition to leading Australia and New Zealand, TJ will also assume responsibility for Asia under the leadership of Shawn Clark. In this new structure, Shawn will report to TJ. The roles held by team members that support Shawn in Human Resources, Legal and Finance at the LexisNexis Asia level will be combined with the Pacific team.

Christian Fleck will continue to lead the UK and Ireland and will report directly to me.

Bob Romeo will continue to lead Research & Litigation Solutions and will also assume responsibility for Canada. The head of Canada, Loik Amis will report to Bob.

We are combining the U.S. and International Business Insight Solutions (BIS) teams under the leadership of Tom Ogburn and in his new role, Tom will report to me.

Clemens Ceipek will continue to lead the global New Lexis effort and will now report directly to me.

Jeff Reihl and Alex Watson will continue with their current respective responsibilities, and Technology and Operations teams in the UK/Ireland, Asia Pacific and Canada will report solid line to Jeff and Alex with a dotted line into country or regional leaders. Rudy Wedenoja will continue to lead Reed Elsevier Technology Services (RETS) and support both LexisNexis Legal & Professional and the other Reed Elsevier businesses, and will now report to Jeff.

Finance and Human Resources teams in Asia Pacific, EMEA, and UK/Ireland will now report directly to Ed Cassar and Doreen Tyburski respectively; all other reporting lines remain the same for Finance and Human Resources. The team members in Judy Vezmar’s central LexisNexis International team (Human Resources, Legal, Finance, Strategy and Marketing) are now being consulted to define the impact to their current roles.

Mike Lipps, Sam Hardman, Andrew Matuch and Ian McDougall will continue in their current roles reporting to me.

Click here to view my direct report organization chart. All reporting lines will remain the same through the end of the year; it is imperative everyone stays focused on delivering a strong close to 2013. We’re in various stages of consultation with employees about their roles, and teams will be working through changes. If you have questions in the interim, please discuss them with your leader.

After January 1, Judy will begin exploring alternative opportunities within Reed Elsevier. I’d like to thank Judy for her 12 years of leadership within LexisNexis. She has led International to deliver exceptional financial results for LexisNexis Legal & Professional over the years with many countries achieving market leading positions. Her contributions to the growth and transformation of our international business, and her commitment to advancing the rule of law are deep and heartfelt. Judy has been a proponent of New Lexis from the beginning and has worked to get it off the ground internationally; she has driven significant improvement in Net Promoters Scores over the last three years, and has been passionately devoted to developing talent at all levels within the organization, as evidenced by the global leadership team I’m announcing today.

These changes will enable us to better serve our customers with a flatter organization and greater leverage of shared services. The changes continue to help us achieve our vision of becoming #1 in every market we serve by the end of the decade.

Sincerely,

Mike Walsh
Chief Executive Officer
