Ireland: Gambling advertising ban approved by Government

A new Gambling Regulator Authority will enforce the ban

A gambling advertising ban was approved by Cabinet this morning.

The measure is part of the Gambling Regulation Bill and will see gambling advertising prohibited from 5:30am until 9pm. A new Gambling Regulator Authority will enforce the ban.

Online gambling adverts will also effectively be banned unless a person opts in to get them. The Government plans to have the Gambling Regulator Authority established next year.

Betting on credit cards and the placing of ATMs in certain areas will also be prohibited, while anyone operating without a gambling licence could face a prison sentence of up to eight years.
