The Islamic Republic’s judiciary has sentenced two lawyers to prison and imposed additional penalties in separate cases in Tehran and Mashhad.
The Tehran Court of Appeals, Branch 36, upheld the original sentence against Taher Naqavi, a lawyer currently held in Evin Prison.
Judge Abolqasem Salavati had previously sentenced Naqavi to six years in prison, a two-year ban on leaving the country, and deprivation of social rights and political party membership for two years.
“Supporting news networks and television channels outside the country” was cited as one of the reasons for upholding the original verdict, according to the HRANA human rights organization.
Meanwhile, Khosrow Alikordi, a lawyer detained in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, received a one-year prison sentence from Branch 5 of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court.
The court accused Alikordi of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic,” citing “posts shared on social media” as evidence.
Alikordi had represented several families of victims of the crackdown on the 2022 protests.
