Iowa Law named Best Value Law School for 8th consecutive year

The University of Iowa College of Law is named a Best Value Law School for the 8th year in a row.

The best value ranking is a point of pride for Iowa Law. As stated in preLaw Magazine, “If a school charges affordable tuition and offers a quality education, it attracts better students. If it attracts better students, those students perform better on the bar exam and are more employable.”

“Iowa Law believes strongly in its mission as a public law school. Accessibility and affordability are critical to our success. Being a best value law school ensures that our students can pursue their hopes and dreams without being overwhelmed by debt,” said Dean Washburn

Statistic: In the Class of 2020, 100% were employed within 10 months of graduation.

The college’s ability to assist graduates in obtaining meaningful jobs has improved over the previous year, even in the midst of a global pandemic. According to Law.com, Iowa Law’s Class of 2020 had the 9th highest employment rate for full-time jobs and was the 8th highest for bar passage required and JD advantage jobs. These rankings have increased steadily in recent years—in 2019 we were ranked 11th and 9th, respectively and in 2018, 13th and 15th, respectively.

Iowa Law has made significant investments in becoming “The Writing Law School”  and this effort has paid off. The Class of 2020 also had the 20th highest placements for Federal Clerkships, 28th for State and Local Clerkships, and ranked 25th for Elite Jobs, a new category consisting of 101-500+ firms and federal clerkships, and 29th for Large Firms (100 or more attorneys).

The College of Law is proud of the work of our students and faculty members to achieve such rankings and we hope to continue to improve them as we go further into the future.

“Our students work hard to land their first jobs. While the ranking is ultimately a testament to our talented students, the Career Services team along with Iowa Law faculty and staff are dedicated to helping students launch their careers,” shared Carin Crain, associate dean of student and career services.

From private firms and Fortune 100 companies to global nonprofits and government agencies, Iowa Law alumni are currently practicing in all 50 states and in 43 countries around the world.
