Intellectual property strategist Ralph Eckardt is joining the Board of INTIPSA, the International IP Strategists Association, with immediate effect. Eckardt, we’re told, is the co?founder and managing partner of 3LP Advisors, LLC, a firm focused on IP strategy development, patent portfolio transactions and IP?based investments. 3LP has offices in Boston (MA) and Palo Alto (CA). He will spearhead INTIPSA?s growth in North America.

Launched in May 2011, INTIPSA is the international route for businesses of all sizes to locate high quality advice and advisors on IP strategy. Its members are business professionals involved in the strategic management of IP, either as in?house executives and specialists or as external advisors. INTIPSA aims to push the strategic management of IP up the board agenda and to build IP strategy as a professional discipline with associated quality standards for its delivery. Members benefit from a variety of events, resources and networking.
Mr Eckardt will focus on serving and expanding INTIPSA?s membership base in the US and Canada, including partnerships with like?minded organisations and commercial sponsorship opportunities. He will also contribute to INTIPSA initiatives on educating and informing business, academic institutions and government about IP strategic management. He is the first US?based appointee to the INTIPSA Board.

Mr Eckardt is already a Fellow of INTIPSA, the organisation?s highest category of membership. In October he contributed to a highly successful INTIPSA webinar, the Great Patent Bubble of 2011, where he commented on the implications of recent patent deals for IP markets. At 3LP he works with companies to develop and implement IP strategies, acquire strategic IP assets and monetise intellectual property through patent sales.

About Ralph Eckardt
Mr Eckardt has been providing professional services related to corporate strategy and transaction advisory work for more than 15 years, advising both large and small companies across a wide variety of industries. Prior to founding 3LP Advisors, he served as head of the Boston Consulting Group?s IP strategy practice, where he developed IP strategies for leading corporations in the technology, telecommunications, pharma/biotech, automotive, basic materials and industrial sectors. In addition, he has developed proprietary and patented tools for IP analysis and visualisation.
Mr Eckardt is co?author of The Invisible Edge: Taking Your Strategy to the Next Level Using Intellectual Property, which was named Best Strategy Book in 2009 by a leading business journal.
He has been selected by IAM Magazine as one of the World?s Leading IP Strategists in each year that the list has been published. He has also authored a number of papers and articles on intellectual property and has spoken on IP strategy at a variety of forums, including the IP Business Congress, The CIP Forum, the LES 100 Executive Forum, the Advanced Patent Law Institute and the Conference Board. Before joining the Boston Consulting Group, Mr Eckardt was a senior consultant at Arthur Andersen Worldwide.
Mr Eckardt received his MBA from MIT/Sloan School of Management and a BS from Messiah College, Pennsylvania, in both cases graduating summa cum laude.
